Devin's first day of school...pre-school that is!

I have been looking (by looking I mean perusing the internet) at pre-schools on and off for about a year. I never pushed it because most schools require that they be potty trained and he is not, and he has to be age 3 by December 2nd, and that is a no too. So when my friend Laurie mentioned that Jazzie is now in pre-school I went back into my pre-school folder and opened up a school that was my top choice. I realized that the world was telling us we needed to make some headway, as they had 2 more opening's in the 2's class! It is a co-op, it is cheap, and it is right down the street from our house....really there is nothing against us, well except that the school year started in 4 days.

He has been yearning for some play and interaction with other kids, especially boys, since most of his friends are girls. And the majority of those girls live too far away with the exception of 2, but their mom's work, so weekday play is out of the question. So I made an appointment to see the school the morning of our camping trip, and she tells me that there is now only 1 spot left, so I sign him up right then and there. She was quite surprised as I didn't even go home to "think" about it, but in my mind I have been pondering it for the last year, so I knew it was the right thing to do.

Devin LOVED school. There was so much to play with, and so much to do, all in one short day. And to my amazement, he clung to me! I mention this because my son is a Daddy's boy through and through. On a normal day he will get hurt or need cuddles, and he will wonder the house shouting Dada. Or at the park, he will look to another mommy for comfort if he fell, we might not even know that mommy. So I loved that he looked to me for some comfort and reassurance.

Throughout the day he painted, played in the "playroom" he played in the sand, and with the sand kitchen. He also filled up a toy stroller, with about 6 dolls, and strolled that around. H played ring around the rosies for circle time, and was impatient during music time, but then again, that was the end of the day. Momma, just let him lead the way, and Teacher Nancy, let me do that instead of my "job" to get us used to our first day at school!
